UN Speech for Women
Students,
Below is a speech from the UN about the position of women globally. The speech has a great outline and may be useful for when you are perfecting your own opening speeches. On the link, you can read the speech or watch the speech.

How to Answer your Position Paper Outline
Hola chicos,
Some of you have been having trouble finding the answers to the questions on the position paper outline. I wanted to give you an example of how to do this. Let’s look at question 3 in the case of Yemen:
“Your country’s national past policies/actions about Gender Equality. What happened? Why?”
**To answer this question, I typed into google “Yemen policies for women.” I found a source (http://www.refworld.org/docid/47387b712f.html) that tells me that there is no law against women in Yemen, but discrimination is very present. This is because “those governing women’s rights in the family that have been created by Yemeni legislators under the pretext of Islamic Shari’a. For example, women have fewer rights than men in Yemen’s Personal Status Law, which governs matters of marriage, divorce, child custody, and inheritance.”
^This tells me that although no formal policies discriminate women, it is unlikely that there are laws for women’s rights. So I would rewrite in my own words about this issue.
**To answer questions about quotas, there is a link below. If you have any questions, please email us.
And finally, here is the source about Ending Violence Against Women that we are looking at this week: http://www.unwomen.org/en/news/in-focus/end-violence-against-women
